Message Hi gang, it's been a loooooooong time. Used to be a member 5 years ago, but then I sold my '95 Z 2+2 and moved to Manhattan. My wife and I have now relocated to beautiful, sunny southern California(L.A.), so I am looking to replace my baby in the next 2-4 weeks.

So here's my situation:

Ideally, I would like to find a low-mileage 95-96 TT (5-spd). However, I'm finding that they are REALLY hard to find. Most have way too many miles, previous body damage or accident, too many mods (I want to do my own, start from scratch), "salvage title", or they are simply too far away to properly investigate. So I'm now taking a more serious look at another NA.

1) LA driving SUCKS with a stick-shift, but I'm willing to make the sacrifice for a TT. If I can't have turbo, though, I definitely would prefer automatic transmission. Once purchased, I plan to keep this car FOREVER (drive daily for a few years, then restore to perfection). With this in mind, do you think that maintaining an auto-transmission will be significantly more difficult and expensive than 5-spd? I'm prepared for a slight difference, but I don't want to buy into something that's going to be a major headache 10 years down the road. I'm a novice at auto mechanics, so any advice here is greatly appreciated.

2) With NA, I was also thinking of keeping my search strictly to 1996 models. Since it was the final U.S. year, I'm thinking that they'll be more desireable in the coming years. However, I've seen some great deals on 95 models. Were there any improvements to the 1996 NA that make it significantly better than its 1995 predecessor? And from a collectors perspective, do you think there will be much of a difference in value between 1995/1996 models?

Since before I could drive, the Z line has been my own personal "dream car". The 90-96 Z is to me what the 69 Corvette is to Baby Boomers. And living in California is absolutely perfect for owning one of these babies and keeping her purring for many, many, many years to come. I can't wait to join the club again! :)

Thanks for your help.

Rick

P.S. This site rocks! I'm really psyched to see it's still around after all these years. Obviously, I'm not alone in my obsession. ;)
